Barbadora INK is a specialty public relations and multichannel communications firm built off of the building blocks of excellent writing…in other words, we tell a good story. We partner with businesses of all varietals (and like wine of all varietals, too) but have a particular panache for communicating complex technology, financial products, and bioscience to business audiences who want to know “what’s in it for me.” Barbadora INK was founded in 2006 by Lisa Barbadora – a graduate of Villanova University. Lisa began working as a copywriter on the Pizza Hut and DuPont Chemical accounts at Earle Palmer Brown in Philadelphia. She then wore out her heels learning more than most writers care to know about life insurance, banking, and hedge funds while working at a financial services marketing firm and studying for an MBA at Drexel University’s LeBow School of Business. Eventually, she landed at one of the region’s top B2B ad agencies – Schubert B2B. As Director of Content, Lisa supported the agency’s biggest clients, including Hurst Jaws of Life, Affinity Insurance, Mars Electronics, Houghton International, and many more. Lisa launched Barbadora INK with a unique combination of experience from both the corporate and agency worlds, grounding the firm with an understanding of the pressures, challenges, and processes of each type of client. This background also provided a sweeping education about many types of complex products and industries so there’s very little hand-holding required when starting a new project with Barbadora INK.

Today, Barbadora INK has a small militia of highly seasoned specialists in media relations, writing, marketing, social media, and public relations strategy at the ready. In the new age of ‘content is king’ we bring it – with genuine content that resonates with people, not hashtags. We communicate on a one-to-one level with reporters and editors who often become our friends. And, we write with an acute focus on the buyers reading our clients’ bylines, news, web content, case studies, and social posts. We don’t follow a rule book, blindly hitting repeat on our PR programs each cycle – that’s the death of any media program. Jamie Dabao Brown is a strategic partner of Barbadora Ink. She launched Direct Public Relations, a boutique agency, after spending more than 15 years in the communications industry. She specializes in developing and implementing public relations strategies for mid-large sized companies across several industries, including life sciences, technology, higher education, and food & beverage. Prior to Direct Public Relations, she spent many years running campaigns for consumer name brands (i.e., Nestle, Anheuser-Busch, Sony) at Fleishman-Hillard, NBC, Parsons Corporation, and Woodbury University. Brown’s expertise expands across all areas of corporate communications, but particularly enjoys executing successful media relations campaigns. Jamie has secured coverage for clients in top media outlets, such as The New York Times, WSJ, Fortune, U.S. News & World Report, CNBC, Boston Globe, Forbes, Fortune, Fast Company, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, among others. Marla Kertzman has more than 25 years of strategic communications experience in corporate and agency environments, including start-up, pre-IPO and Fortune 500 companies. She has worked with a range of technology, life sciences, healthcare, and consumer brands. Before forming Thoroughbred Communications, she was the life science practice chair at Racepoint Global and Senior Vice President at Weber Shandwick. Results-driven, Marla has extensive experience in executive communications, media training and program execution from start up to large multinational companies. Her experience extends to creating copy for a range of marketing communications including feature articles, blogs, press releases, social media, collateral literature, long-form offers, digital marketing programs, video scripts, newsletter articles, white papers and web sites. Jean holds a B.A. degree in both English and Mass Communications as well as a Journalism certification. She continues to take marketing courses to remain current on latest trends.
